Our body-mind seeks freedom of expression. We are in constant dialogue with gravity, force, breath and imagery. At the same time, we reside in each of our own socio-cultural and generational histories. Having experienced and studied Ballet, Humphrey, Graham, Cunningham, and Release techniques, Paul Taylor’s work, German Expressionism, Tai-Chi, Noh, Butoh, Japanese contemporary dance, and pursuing her own movement style/technique, Ayako questions: How are we physically made? How are we moving under the principles of nature and the universe? How are we conveying our artistic motion? How can we mediate our external and internal environments to move through space-time?
In this workshop, we will physically perceive, why ballet? what is ballet? why are artists advancing, drifting away, and/or sticking to their preffered style and form, where we are, and what we are dancing now? Maybe we have no answer, yet this is an opportunity for you to reflect on your relationship to movement.
